Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has said he has always backed the England men’s team to “go all the way”, following their semi-final victory over the Netherlands in Euro 2024.
Speaking after the game, he was reminded of his previous call for a bank holiday if the Lionesses, England’s women’s team, won the 2023 World Cup – which they did not do.
Asked if he backed a day off if England win the final on Sunday against Spain, he said we should “mark it in some way”, but added he would not make an announcement yet in case he might “jinx it”.
