Clive Lewis made a fresh attempt to swear in as an MP after being warned by the Commons authorities.
The Labour MP for Norwich South was told his previous session last week “could be construed by some” that he had not properly been sworn in.
Under rules dating back to 1866, an MP has to swear allegiance to the monarch and their heirs and successors.
But Mr Lewis initially said he took the oath “under protest” as he wanted his constituents to live in a republic, but gave a more traditional speech on his second attempt on Tuesday.
