Seven people are missing after a sailboat sank off the coast of Sicily in the early hours of Monday morning, the Italian fire and rescue service has said.
Emergency services rescued 15 people including a child after the vessel encountered poor weather off the coast of Palermo.
A wreck has been identified at a depth of 50 metres, the fire brigade said, with divers currently searching for the missing people.
The 50 metre sailboat was carrying a group of international citizens, including British, and flying a British flag, Italian media reports suggest.
The ship is managed by Camper and Nicholsons International. A spokesperson told the BBC that they are currently “dealing with a situation onboard one of [their] managed vessels”, but would not confirm which vessel, or any further details.
