Oldham man, 87, bundled into car and dumped 15 miles from home

An 87-year-old man was attacked and dragged into a car by two men before being driven away and dumped 15 miles from home, police said.

The victim was walking home from Oldham Central Mosque between 20:00 and 21:30 BST on Sunday, said Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Detectives believe he was blindfolded in the car and repeatedly threatened by his attackers who demanded money and his phone.

The seriously injured victim was eventually pushed out of the car in Rishworth, West Yorkshire, and it took him an hour before he could find help and raise the alarm.

GMP said a black car pulled up beside the victim as he walked past garages and workshops on Lee Street and two men got out and forced him inside the vehicle.

During the incident, the victim said he was threatened repeatedly while being attacked.

He was eventually pushed out of the car on a dark road and the vehicle made off, GMP said.

The 87-year-old eventually managed to find help at a house on Oldham Road in Rishworth at about 22:40.

It is believed he may have been dumped near the Turnpike pub.

GMP want to speak to two men described as being Asian, and potentially Bangladeshi due to speaking the victim’s language.

They were approximately 25 to 30 years old and were wearing t-shirts.

Det Insp Emma Hulston said: “This awful attack on an elderly man simply walking down the street is a disturbing act that we are fully investigating.

“The victim, who suffered serious injuries during the incident, endured a terrifying ordeal in which he was taken from close to his home, before being left with torn clothes in the middle of a dark road in unfamiliar surroundings, and with no means of communication.

“We are fortunate we are not talking about a potentially more serious or even fatal outcome.”
